The IAB is chartered both as a committee of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and as an advisory body of the Internet Society (ISOC). Its responsibilities include architectural oversight of IETF activities, Internet Standards Process oversight and appeal, and the appointment of the RFC Editor. The IAB is also responsible for the management of the IETF protocol parameter registries.

• The IAB has selected John Klensin as the new liaison to ISO/TC46, and Eric Gray as the new liaison to IEEE 802.1. John Klensin will be the first IETF liaison to ISO/TC46. Eric Gray will take over for Bert Wijnen, who has stepped down after many years as liaison to IEEE 802.1., 23 June 2008

• The IAB held its annual retreat in Stockholm on 25-26 April. The meeting focused on architectural issues facing the Internet, including routing security, unwanted traffic, IPv6 characteristics and transition, firewalls, protocol scaling and walled-gardens, peer-to-peer architectures, pervasive tunneling, user-oriented traffic control, and the nature and evolution of the IP model and IP addresses.
